Muzeum Šumavy (Šumava Museum)

The former home of the prominent Abel glassmaking family now houses an exhibition dedicated to the history of the town and traditional crafts. Discover glassware from the 19th and first half of the 20th century, a historic bourgeois interior and equipment from traditional Šumava ironworks.

03

Pivovar Belveder (Belveder Brewery)

You don’t have to head down to the lowlands for a good beer. Pivovar Belveder sits at an elevation of 902 metres and continues the tradition of the town brewery, which was already brewing beer in Železná Ruda in 1787. You can also taste unpasteurised and unfiltered beers and take a look inside the brewery itself.

04

Česko-bavorské nádraží (Czech-Bavarian Railway Station)

One building, two countries. The historic railway station in Železná Ruda–Alžbětín lies directly on the Czech-German border. The station opened in 1877 and, after decades when the Iron Curtain interrupted cross-border connections, railway services resumed in 1991.

05

Kostel Panny Marie Pomocné z Hvězdy (Church of Our Lady of Help of the Star)

One of the landmarks of Železná Ruda, just a few steps from Magnetit. This 18th-century Baroque church is unique for its six-pointed star-shaped floor plan and two domes topped with stars. Inside, you’ll find, among other things, a copy of the Madonna and Child painting by Lucas Cranach and glass chandeliers reflecting the tradition of local glassmaking.

06

Špičácký železniční tunel (Špičák Railway Tunnel)

On your train journey to Železná Ruda, you’ll pass through one of the region’s most interesting engineering landmarks. The Špičák Railway Tunnel is 1,747 metres long and was built between 1874 and 1877. At the time, it was the longest railway tunnel in Austria-Hungary.
